POSTED: 4:06 pm PST December 2, 2011UPDATED: 5:43 pm PST December 2, 2011BEND, Ore. -- Cats, dogs, kids and Santa were getting into the holiday spirit all day Friday, kicking off the 19th Annual Santa Paws fund-raiser.It benefits the 4,000 animals that comes through the Humane Society of Central Oregon each year, while giving families a chance to pose for unique holiday photos with their pets. The idea for this year's location and expanded offering arose because Seven Peaks School is doing a winter holiday play this year where the main characters are dogs and cats.So they decided to make it a school project and team up with the shelter -- and organizers say it's definitely a win-win."In this situation, it gives kids a chance to help with what they love so much, which are dogs and cats," said volunteer Rebecca Meade. "And with Santa Paws and the holidays, kids love to get involved with this kind of project -- especially when Santa is around.""I think its good because it'll always bring a smile to your face," said fifth-grader Sophia BriereyYou can still pose with your furry friend.Santa Paws runs again Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Seven Peaks School off Mt. Washington Dr. in Bend.Rumor has it some snakes and ferret pets may even come through then. It's just $10 for a 5x7 photo, and again, it all benefits the Humane Society.Copyright 2011 KTVZ.
