Canadian Natural Resources Farms out Block 11B/12B Offshore South Africa

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNR) and Total E&P South Africa BV will jointly explore Block 11B/12B offshore South Africa. The farm-out agreement will provide Total with a 50 percent working interest in the block and the right to operatorship, with CNR receiving an undisclosed upfront cash payment, a recovery of 50 percent of past incurred costs and a carry in the first exploration well drilled, up to a maximum of $150 million.

CNR has performed seismic studies on Block 11B/12B and now the newly formed consortium will work towards finalizing the location of the initial exploration well. Drilling is slated for 2014.

The Calgary-based energy firm chose Total after a "lengthy and thorough process" because of its expertise in deep water exploration.?

"The exploration potential in this offshore area of South Africa is exciting,? commented Steve Laut, president of Canadian Natural, in a press release. ?We are pleased to have the opportunity to work together with Total, a world class partner. The completion of this joint venture demonstrates the opportunities provided to the company through its international portfolio which contributes to our vast and diversified asset base. Working together with Total and the Government of South Africa, we are in a positive position to maximize shareholder value in this exciting prospect."

Situated in the Outeniqua Basin, Block 11B/12B lies 109 miles off the southern coast of South Africa and spans 4.6 million acres. Water depths range from 656 to 5,905 feet.?

Warne cards 71 at golf's Mecca St Andrews

Cricket great Shane Warne drained a seven-foot birdie putt on the final hole at St Andrews to complete a one-under round of 71 at the iconic Scottish golf venue.

Legspin legend Warne posted the scorecard of his "best ever round" on social media shortly after competing in the Dunhill Links Championship's pro-am tournament on Friday morning (AEST).

It would have been tough reading for some of golf's most seasoned professionals, with the larger-than-life 44-year-old recording par scores on the opening nine holes of the notoriously difficult Old Course.

A double-bogey on the 16th was a major blemish for the man with 708 Test wickets to his name but he recovered with yet another par and his ice-cool long putt on the 18th.

To put Warne's effort in perspective, his score was better than what Adam Scott and Tiger Woods managed in three of their four rounds in 2010 when The Open Championship was held at St Andrews.

On Friday, he got the better of major winners Vijay Singh (74), David Duval (73) and Louis Oosthuizen (74); and was hot on the heels of Retief Goosen (70) and Ernie Els (69).

Shane Warne and Peter O'Malley, who Warne bettered by three shots, were tied fourth in the pro-am at 11 under, five shots adrift of English professional Richard McEvoy and New York banker Michael Zankow.

"Thanks everyone for your tips & support ! I shot 71 off the stick today at St Andrews, my best ever round of golf #dunhilllinks," Warne posted on Twitter.

Todd Bridges remembers fatherly co-star Bain

By Seth Abramovitch , The Hollywood Reporter

The death of Conrad Bain?at age 89 has hit no one harder than Todd Bridges, who for eight seasons played adopted son to Bain's millionaire character Mr. Drummond on the hit NBC sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes."

Now the sole survivor of the show's core cast -- Dana Plato committed suicide in 1999, and Gary Coleman died after falling down a flight of stairs in 2010 -- Bridges says he'll miss the man who was his surrogate father both on and off the screen.

"This is probably one of the most heart-wrenching days I?ve had in a long time," Bridges, now 47, tells The Hollywood Reporter. "That Conrad?s not going to be around anymore to talk to. Whenever I needed advice, I?d call Conrad."

STORY: "Diff?rent Strokes" Dad Conrad Bain dies at 89

The two first met in 1977, when a 12-year-old Bridges -- who had already starred alongside Abe Vigoda?on ABC's "Barney Miller" spinoff, "Fish" --?was cast with Bain and Coleman to star in a 20-minute presentation for NBC executives. The chemistry between the trio was so effortless, the network brass bought a full season on the spot.

"First time in history they bought 26 shows based on a presentation like that -- a balcony scene that me, Conrad and Gary worked on together," Bridges recalls.

"Diff'rent Strokes" was an instant hit with audiences, which Bridges partly attributes to the country's frayed social landscape at the time: "It was during a time that race relations were kind of poor in America, and it kind of hit home that it doesn?t matter what color you are. Whoever God puts in front of you is who you?re supposed to love," he said.

Bridges and Bain instantly bonded, as they'd both regularly show up early to work -- and the fatherly Bain filled a void in Bridges' life.

"He was a really good man," Bridges says. "He really was like Mr. Drummond. Just an all-around nice guy. He treated me better than my own father treated me."

The ensuing years brought plenty of turmoil for the show's young stars, including Bridges' much-publicized addiction to crack cocaine in his 20s and an arrest for the murder of a drug dealer, for which he was later acquitted. Through it all, Bridges says, Bain was there to offer a sympathetic ear and his advice.

Eventually, Bridges got clean and had a family of his own, beginning with son?Spencir Bridges -- at 15, now a busy working actor who has appeared on episodes of "House M.D." and "iCarly" and in the 2003?Eddie Murphy film "Daddy Day Care."

"When I had my son, I took him to Conrad's house and he loved him, played chess with him, called him his grandson," Bridges says. "He just really knew how to take care of people."

"I cried all day. I can?t even cry anymore. I'll truly miss that man," he adds.

Oil jumps above $94 on US supply report

The price of oil jumped above $94 a barrel Wednesday after an unexpected drop in U.S. crude supplies.

Benchmark oil was up 92 cents to $94.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Oil supplies fell by 1 million barrels, or 0.3 percent, to 360.3 million barrels last week. Analysts expected an increase of 2.5 million barrels. The drop was due mainly to a decline in imports. Gasoline supplies grew less than expected as refineries slowed output.

Still, supplies of oil and gasoline remain above average for this time of year, with crude inventories nearly 9 percent higher than a year ago and gasoline levels more than 3 percent higher. Domestic production of crude, at more than 7 million barrels a day, is the highest in 20 years.

Prices at the pump continue to slip lower. The national average for a gallon of gas is now $3.29, down about a penny from a week ago and 9 cents less than at this time last year.

Going forward, trading will be watching for the latest reading on China's economic growth Friday and contentious negotiations in Washington over the nation's borrowing limit.

Brent crude, used to price international varieties of oil, was up 37 cents to $110 per barrel on the ICE Futures exchange in London.

In other energy futures trading on Nymex:

? Wholesale gasoline rose 2 cents to $2.73 a gallon.

? Natural gas lost 7 cents to $3.38 per 1,000 cubic feet.

? Heating oil was flat at $3.01 a gallon.
